Mathematical modeling to optimize production planning and scheduling in a small foundry with multiple alternating furnaces

چکیده

Purpose - This study presents an extension to a model in the literature for lot-sizing and scheduling small foundry with multiple alternate furnaces. The purpose of is minimize delays inventory costs. In addition, it determines best use load capacity Theoretical framework – Lot-sizing foundries marketplace subject academic interest due its applicability mathematical computational complexity. Many papers address production problem single furnace, however, few possibility Design/methodology/approach Mathematical modeling was used represent foundry. Data from company's order books were collected validation questionnaires applied. Findings extended able generate good plans at different planning horizons, better performance than current methods obtained by company. Originality/value contributes addressing existence non-simultaneous furnaces, feature that has not been greatly explored. A comparison other models performed indicate most suitable actual application. Keywords: Alloys scheduling. Foundry. Lot size. Mixed integer programming.
